Martin Škrtel is a professional Slovak footballer who currently plays for Liverpool Football Club in the Premier League.
Martin Škrtel began his football career at FK Inter Bratislava in his native Slovakia. He quickly made an impression on the club and in 2004 he moved to Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg. With Zenit, Škrtel won the UEFA Cup and the Russian Premier League in 2007/08.
On 2 January 2008, Škrtel joined Premier League side Liverpool, signing a four and a half year contract. He made his debut in a 3–2 defeat to Aston Villa the following day. He quickly established himself as a regular in the starting eleven, and was seen as one of the most consistent players in the Liverpool squad.
In the 2011/12 season Škrtel was an ever-present in the Liverpool side and was part of the team which reached the 2012 League Cup Final. The following season he was part of the side which reached the FA Cup Final, but lost to Chelsea.
Despite being linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer of 2014, Škrtel has remained at Liverpool and continues to be an important member of the squad.
